Jeremiah Sheehan, born in Ireland, was convicted for stealing a pig in 1849 and transported to Van Diemen’s Land where he married Elizabeth Deverille. Elizabeth was the daughter of convicts, James Deverell and Catherine Lowry.
Jeremiah and Elizabeth’s youngest child, James Michael Sheehan was my Great Grandfather. In 1903 he married Bertha Mary Jane Broomhall, daughter of Michael Broomhall and Mary Wilson. Mary’s parents, Andrew Greig Wilson and Janet (nee Smeaton) had migrated to Van Diemen’s Land in 1842. Michael’s father, James Broomhall, was a convict transported to Van Diemen’s Land in 1825, while his mother, Mary Coan emigrated from Ireland in 1836.
